| A monk prays for an elderly man who had died suddenly while waiting for a train in Shanxi Taiyuan, China. |
this is one of the pictures that spoke the most to me. it didn't make me cry but if you saw my facial expression you think i would. i feel like this is the way to die. how could someone just pass waiting for a train. you're not expecting anything and you just die. not even with your family. and how is this possible. was he sick or anything. just dead. i couldn't believe my eyes when i read the caption. and this monk. he is a brave person. not a lot of people would go and touch a dead body. and though i don't think his prayers cant do anything at this point but it's nice to know that somebody cares. i stared at this picture for a while and i was wondering what is everybody doing there staring. maybe if they took action this old man could be saved. i don't want to start talking about injustice but i feel like this man should have had it better. i mean to die in public like that. all i can say is the worst way. can you imagine his family. that along with great sadness they would feel a mix of embarrassment. i just can't over the fact of what a way to die. but back to the monk. someone needs to go give him a hug because what he's doing is a pretty deep thing. imagine how cold the hand used to be as he felt it. this event could help people become better [people in the future and to be more humble like the monk. some comments from people were:

Now this is a true monk! Seeing the simply dressed monk holding the dead old man’s hand sincerely praying for him and then bowing deeply while the old man lies askew on the bench, his body already cold, my eyes couldn’t help but moisten. Already moved by the monk, I am again struck by life’s impermanence!
Think about one’s own loved ones, and spend more time with them!

Namo Amitabha. With today’s society, we can only depend on prayer. Everything else is useless.

The day, the second, this old man was born, he too never thought he would one day leave this world in the waiting hall of a train station. Things are difficult to predict, and our lives are over in a moment. We will be no different.
to analyze this i decided to do a story from both points of view. (old man versus Monk)
OLD MAN:
it was awfully cold in Shanxi today. oh well that won't stop me I'm going to visit my granddaughter because i haven't seen her in a long time. and she's really sick. wow it's really chilly, I'm feeling weak...
MONK:
finally mass was over. i had to head home quickly. tomorrow I'm waking up early to go feed the homeless children. wow it's late. maybe I'll take the train. yes it's faster and more efficient. i just hope there's not to much commotion down by there I'm not in the mood for noise
OLD MAN:
i was sitting here and i felt terrible. i hope i wasn't getting sick before i saw my sick grandchild. i smiled at the thought. *cough hack cough* it was getting really bad. i felt my bones weakening and my heart slowing. and then.. i yawned. oh well a tired old man has to sleep. i laid my head down on my shoulder. i was slipping into unconsciousnesses i bright light shone in my eyes and i felt very sleepy. but inside i knew i wouldn't be waking up.no one would know me and why i decided to "disappear". i would show up in newspapers as "The old man’s identity and cause of death is unknown." at 5 o'clock i closed my eyes for a long long time
MONK:
oh know there was many people at the station. but they all seemed anxious what was going on. as i moved in closer, people moved out of the way for me and when i broke through the crowd there was a sleeping old man... all alone. the train was coming soon so i decided to wake him up. i grabbed the mans pale hand and squeezed. it was cold. to cold even for a chilly day like this. i felt no pulse in his frail wrist. the man died on this bench. i immediately felt sick to my stomach. but not because i touched a dead man, but because he died in such a terrible way. may your soul find peace i whispered. and i held his hand and prayed for his Innocent soul to find it ways to peace.. despite the looks i was getting, i performed a ceremony for the old man. i began to tear up as i bowed down before. i am so sorry for you i told him. i got up and told a final prayer for him and walked away strongly believing i helped the man find where he needed to be
DAUGHTER:
no one came to my granddad's funeral but me and my family mostly because he was not very well known and i simply took him from the hospital and buried him in my small home's backyard. but there was one man off to the side of the fence. he was dressed simply and looked like a monk. for some reason i felt and instant connection and eternal gratefulness to this man. i walked over to where he stood and with no introduction i hugged him. he gave a small smile and we both turned to face the tombstone silent tears falling down our faces....prediction: there is not much to predict. the monk will go on with his life silently remembering the day an old man departed in a miserable way. people will forever be moved when they here this story and possibly mimic the humbleness of the monk. (if a continuation of my story the granddaughter could feel so much love for the monk she want's to marry him as a way to repay him....) and if the old man had somehow survived he would of also felt great love for the monk who took time out of his day to in a way help this poor old man...
